Matt Hennessy

I've spent an unreasonable amount of my life trying to understand how things work. Computers, people, organizations, websites, and, more recently, my attempts to convince clay to do what I want. At work, that curiosity shows up as writing code, untangling technical problems, helping teams make better decisions, and finding thoughtful ways to use AI to give engineers more time for the work that actually needs a human brain.

My path has been anything but linear: self-taught programmer, freelance developer, psychology student, UX researcher, coding instructor, curriculum designer, and now staff engineer and technical leader. Somewhere along the way I became especially interested in the connective tissue between people and technology: documentation, communication, teaching, and turning "everyone sort of understands this differently” into “ok, we're all on the same page.”

Outside of work, you can find me making pottery, baking, drinking bubble tea, riding my bike, and enthusiastically pointing out good urban design.
